National Careers Week
Posted on 24th Mar 2023National Careers Week ran from Monday 6th – Friday 10th March and provided Year 9 and Year 10 students the opportunity to investigate their careers options. We had lots going on to support students in reflecting on their choices after secondary school. During form time students completed activities including a careers quiz to explore how their interests may lead to a future career. During the whole week, the Academy ran assemblies highlighting different routes into professions, what qualifications can unlock in the future and how the Academy can support students with their future aspirations.
Year 10 students were able to enjoy informative Virtual Careers Talks during the week, covering the topics:
-
Employability Skills and the World of Work
-
Why Study at University?
-
Careers in the RAF
-
Careers in the Police Force
-
An introduction to Apprenticeships
-
Careers in Health & Social Care
All presentations were very informative and gave the opportunity for students to ask questions and gain insight into potential careers.
On Wednesday 8th & Thursday 9th March we took over 100 year 9 & 10 students to the Norfolk Skills and Careers Festival. This is the largest careers event in East Anglia, held at the Royal Norfolk Showground, with over 100 businesses and more than 7,500 students. Despite the inclement weather, these trips were an enjoyable way for students to engage with local industries and further education institutions. There was plenty of information regarding a whole range of options. Some students were able to use the Virtual Reality headsets to explore offshore wind turbines, while others took the opportunity to have a go at plumbing or roofing thanks to some impressive activities provided by apprenticeship providers. There were also various opportunities to enjoy some wonderful food and drinks from the hospitality sector. With so much to do, it was hard for some students to tear themselves away. Please visit the website to see full details of all that was on offer: https://www.norfolkskills.co.uk/
Students commented that you really don’t know what's out there in the world of work and it's so important that schools help shine a light on potential careers.
In so short an article it is impossible to share all of the information, but some of the brochures are available in the Library Careers Section.
Don’t forget, for any further careers advice, students can pop along to the Library on a Thursday lunchtime to see Mrs Foster, or alternatively, she can be contacted at mfoster@attleboroughacademy.org with any questions you may have.
A huge thank you to from Mr Stott to Mrs Foster (Careers adviser & Work Experience Co-ordinator) and Mrs Peat (Careers Facilitator) for all your efforts over the week.
