News from the Art Department

Posted on 29th Nov 2023

In the Art department, we have had a very busy term. We are very proud of how our Year 7 students have settled in, creating some wonderful work around the theme of "self-image". Meanwhile our Year 8s have developed their ceramics skills and built some beautiful towers, our Year 9s have challenged themselves incorporating messages into their art work and therefore creating quite mature and meaningful outcomes.

Our new GCSE students have settled into their new routines and have already created some stunning work on the theme of Natural Form. Especially the oil pastel enlargements look superb! Our Year 11s have personalised their portfolios this term, and we are looking forward to seeing their individual final pieces for their projects. In the Sixth Form, students have settled into their courses too and created a wide range of media experiments and outcomes which show their creativity! We are eager to see where their journeys will take them.

We also welcomed our new technician, Mrs Burch, who has settled in incredibly well and is such a help to the Department and the students!

This term, it has been especially great to see so many of our students participating in our Art clubs: from Craft Club, to Open Studio time, Collaborative Club to KS3 Art club. During lunch time sessions, the Art rooms have been a real hub with lots of positive energy, and at this point a big thanks should go to the members of staff who are running these co-curricular activities!

Next term, we are looking forward to taking our Year 11 and Sixth Form students to the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery in London. A big thanks to Mr Daniel for organising this.
