International Women’s Day Football

On Friday 8 March 10 Year 7 students travelled to the Nest for Norwich City's Community Sports Foundations International Women's Day Cup. The girls took part in some workshops in the morning, along with some guest speakers and a Q&A session with some inspirational women that work within sport. The afternoon was then packed full of football as the girls took part in a 7-a-side competition. Attleborough were successful in finishing second in the group but then came up against a very strong Taverham side (who then went on to win the whole tournament).

Dereham Northgate Football Tournaments

Attleborough Academy Girls U13 team travelled to Dereham Northgate on Tuesday 30 January to take part in a girls' 7-a-side competition. This was the first girls' football fixture Attleborough Academy had attended and the girls finished the afternoon finishing in a very respectable 4th place. We are very excited to see this group of girls continue to develop in their football journey at Attleborough Academy.

Badminton Fixtures

Our badminton players have hosted a range of different schools this year, giving our players a great opportunity to play competitively and, more importantly, for fun! For some of our players, these matches were their first time at representing AA in a sporting fixture and they certainly didn’t disappoint! Our players demonstrated great skills and even better tactics throughout these games and we walked away with some promising wins in the bag – great effort! AA badminton club is always a popular after-school club with around 30 students turning up each week to have a game. It’s been fantastic to watch some brilliant talent develop and the students enjoy playing another sport.

Inter House

Inter-house was back this year and bigger and better than ever!! Years 7 – 10 have competed in a whole host of sports from netball and football, to basketball and handball and our programme is only half way through!  Summer term will see cricket, rounders and athletics events being held and we can’t wait to get going with those too! AA Sports captains have been incredible at fielding teams and demonstrating brilliant sportsperson-ship throughout. The buzz around site on “game days” has been priceless and the whole school takes part and sign-up has been better than ever before. Team PE are so proud of all the students who have pushed themselves out of their comfort zones and represented their houses at all sports, but especially those sports which are not necessarily their favourite. Well done!

Netball

Year 7’s have been so committed to their netball development since joining the Academy.  Most girls now train twice a week.  While the start of the season was a sharp learning curve, both teams are now starting to see the benefit of the training and securing some wins along the way - wins against Thetford Academy and Wymondham High and earning 4th place at the South Norfolk Netball Tournament.  Well done to all of the girls – training will continue throughout the summer term so we are ready for the season to start again in September.

More girls are needed to attend training on a Thursday in the Sports Hall after school from other year groups.

Football

The Attleborough Academy football teams have taken part in 40 fixtures and 3 tournaments during this school year. The Year 7s have shown lots of promise and potential as they have finished 3rd in their first league campaign and won a friendly tournament hosted by Neatherd High School. The Year 8s have had an impressive cup run as they continue to progress in the County Plate, currently at the quarter-final stage. The Year 9s have shown quality in lots of their performances. They went on a good County Cup run with a brilliant 7-4 victory the most notable performance. The Year 10s also had a solid County Cup run as well as being our only age group that also competed in the National Cup. The Year 11s finished their school football off with an impressive run in the league, finishing 2nd . It was also great to see 26 Year 11s compete in their inter-school leavers game to highlight and credit their outstanding achievement and commitment to school football in the 5 years they have been at the school.
