Year 8 Natural History Museum Trip

Posted on 27th May 2024

Year 8 were given the opportunity to visit and explore the various exhibits on display at Natural History Museum in London.

During the journey the students were treated to a guided tour, courtesy of Mrs Allott and Miss Warrent, of the various, famous landmarks of London including Wembley Stadium, Tower Bridge, Houses of Parliament, the London Eye and the Elizabeth Tower with its iconic clock face and bell.

When at the museum students were able to explore the different zones of the museum, experiencing lots of hands on activities and  learning outside the classroom. In the red zone students were able to experience the power of the earth in an earthquake simulator and learn about the destructive forces of volcanic eruptions. In the green zone, students learnt about the impacts that humans are having on our planet and the various ‘Creepy Crawlys’ that inhabit our homes. In the blue zone students came face to face with a mechanical, roaring T-Rex and a 26m long life-size model blue whale.

One student had this to say about the trip; “This was the first time I had been to London. The museum was amazing! I liked how interactive the different zones were”.

The trip was a chance to take their learning outside of the classroom.

I would like to thank the students on their exemplary behaviour on the coaches and whilst at the museum – they represented the school very proudly. I would also like to mention the help of the office staff, support staff and teachers who accompanied the trip, without whom trips simply wouldn’t happen.
