Sixth Form Strangers Hall
Posted on 19th Dec 2024Year 12 and 13 History students had an interesting trip to Strangers Hall in Norwich in December. Among the comments by our students on the way home, all agreed that they enjoyed touring such a unique building with its many levels, especially all decked out for Christmas in Elizabethan Fashion.
There were a lot of 'watch your head' moments as we delved into the under croft for our document handling session. The educator running our sessions was very impressed with our students and their answers to her questions as well as their ability to explore the intricacies of personal documents such as wills and inventories to find the voices of the people 400 years later. Students then had a chance to explore the museum to discover how a bed could be the most expensive item in a home and that 16th century businessmen kept some interesting items in their study for animal husbandry in the middle of a growing commercial city. Later some of us explored the rest of the museum on their felt mouse trail.
Overall a lovely day out exploring our local heritage.
