Remembrance
Posted on 14th Nov 2024Many of our wonderful students took part in local Acts of Remembrance this November as Guides, Scouts, Choristers, Cadets, RBL rep, and members of other uniformed organisations. They made our communities in Attleborough, Shropham, Great Ellingham and Watton proud.
Our House Captains and Head Students represented the academy in the Attleborough Remembrance event: walking in the parade, laying the Attleborough Academy wreath, and reading "In Flanders Fields" to the crowd. It was also great to see so many ex students now as young leaders in their organisations, continuing traditions into the future.
Later this year, we will be creating a giant display of photographs connecting our students and their families during World War 1 and World War 2. We would like to recognise all the various ways that men and women of all ages were involved in supporting their countries, in military, agricultural and domestic activities. If possible, please would you send in a copy of a photograph that we can display in school – ideally with a line about the name and how the person links to our community. Mr Bastick and Mrs Tyrer will be co-ordinating this.
Christopher Stevens in year 8 has taken on a special responsibility as the first local member of Norfolk Royal British Legion County Youth section. He has been actively involved in fundraising for the Attleborough British Legion for several years already. He has attended the Norfolk RBL County Rededication Service, at which he was invited to march by the County Chairman, and was introduced to the High Sheriff of Norfolk, NCC County Chairman, and the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk. Christopher has also just been selected by Attleborough Academy to receive a new local award called the 'Community Ambassador Award' in recognition of his work with the RBL
