Bronze DofE Qualifying Expeditions

Posted on 14th Jul 2023

Two teams of students headed out on their Bronze DofE qualifying expeditions on the evening of 12 July, although they did not start their expedition until the morning of 13 July. In contrast to the sunny climes of the Silver expeditions the Bronze Teams had a significantly damper experience. Fortunately, it had stopped raining by the time the students arrived to put up their tents ahead of their expedition starting the following morning.

Over the course of 2 days and 1 night, the teams put into practice the navigation and camp-craft  skills they had learned during their training sessions. Navigation through a forest offers many challenges, especially with the number of fire-breaks and severely overgrown paths encountered. The inclement weather also added to the challenges faced by the Bronze Teams.

However, the rain did not dampen their spirits significantly and there were often smiles to be seen when supervisors checked in with their teams.

Despite the weather and unfamiliar terrain, both teams successfully completed their expeditions. They should be immensely proud of themselves, especially given the conditions, for completing their expeditions.

Sadly, ice-creams were not really appropriate at the end of the Bronze expeditions, but, for those game enough to sign up for Silver next year, we will see what we can do!!!
