GCSE Geography Field Trip

Posted on 17th Oct 2023

GCSE Geography students enjoyed two warm and dry September days when they conducted their fieldwork investigation.

The first day was spent in Cromer conducting beach profile surveys, as well as collecting wind and wave data. As planned, the tide was out, giving us a sufficiently wide foreshore, which was especially useful as two other local schools also had GCSE students in Cromer that day!

Following the beach investigation, the students completed land-use surveys for given areas of the town.

The second day was spent in Norwich, with groups completing separate transects into the city centre from the north, south, east and west. As they walked, students completed land-use surveys, field sketches, an environmental quality index and traffic survey, before returning to school to consider the effectiveness of their data collection methods and to begin some secondary data collection.

They were a brilliant couple of days, with students engaging with all the objectives of the trip and experiencing first hand actually being in the “field” and also understanding some of the difficulties faced when collecting data.
