Performance of 'A Christmas Carol'

Posted on 18th Dec 2023

On Tuesday 28 November, we welcomed Box Clever Theatre Company to the Academy to give two performances of their modernised adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Christmas classic. Three hundred students, from across all year groups, watched the show.  A clever mix of physical theatre and audience participation, it breathed both light and dark on to the tale of the greed and redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge. Students danced, joined in on stage, and took part in a post-show workshop in an energetic and entertaining 90 minutes that opened up discussion of the themes of the story.  This clearly helped students who have been studying the novella or play version in Year 8 Drama and in GCSE English, as well as demonstrating theatrical skill in retelling a well-known story to others in the audience.
