Attleborough Youth Theatre

Posted on 19th Dec 2023

Thanks to funding from The Norwich Freemen’s Charity, we have been able to set up and run a Youth Theatre for students ranging from Y10 to Y13 on Monday evenings between 5pm  and 7pm.

We began on 16 October and now have 16 students involved in rehearsing a brand-new play called ‘Age Is Revolting’ by Abi Zakarian. The play is part of the National Theatre Connections festival and is one of ten plays commissioned by the National Theatre for young people. It tells the story of four ‘typical’ teenagers: Mo, Barney, Arpi and Nina, who seem to have little respect for their elders. The mysterious Supply Teacher, Ms Manoukian, conjures some sort of magic to encourage them to reflect on the process of ageing and they find themselves mysteriously aged and in a care home without really understanding what has happened. With the help of some unusually oversized childhood toys things slowly become clearer…

The play will be performed at the Academy on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 March and then as part of the regional festival at The Garage, in Norwich, on Saturday 27 April. More details to follow.
