University of Suffolk Visit

Posted on 20th Jan 2025

Attleborough Academy Sixth Form students were welcomed to the University of Suffolk on 20 November 2024, as part of the Higher Aspirations Scheme. Our students had the opportunity to take part in mock seminars in their chosen courses, meeting students from different schools, as well as meeting current students to whom they could pose questions

The day started with a talk on how the day was going to be run, which was delivered by the wonderful team of staff and students at the University of Suffolk. They provided refreshments and snacks during break which was followed by a talk on managing money whilst at university, different ways to budget and overall managing life away from home.

Students could pick which sessions they would like to attend from an abundance of subjects such as Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, Law, English Literature and many more. In the Law session, the lecturer, who had previously been a solicitor, created a mock trial on a defamation case. The students were able to create their own cases, including wearing robes and acting as Barristers and Solicitors.

Students could also choose to take part in a campus tour. Students were shown around by wonderful Student Union Representatives,  and were able to ask them questions. We were taken to many different sites on the campus, one of them being the paramedic science unit where there was a mock apartment, so they could recreate a real-life situation with mock patients. We were shown the new dentistry unit, with new technology as well as the new sport science department where it was possible to track your feet placement and your oxygen levels whilst walking or running. This was specific to sports rehab and physiotherapy.

Thank you to Gwenyth from Higher Aspirations for inviting us on this trip, to the University of Suffolk for taking time out of their day to show our students around and giving us a warm welcome and of course thank you to our Year 12 and Year 13 students who joined us on this trip and represented the Academy beautifully.
