National Archives Visit
Posted on 29th Jan 2025Year 10, 12 and 13 History students had a fascinating trip to the National Archives in January. Splitting into two groups and attending different sessions the students had an enlightening time.
Our Year 10 students had the opportunity to see the medical records of soldiers and voluntary aid detachment personnel who fought in WW1. One student told me how he had enjoyed the chance to touch and engage with historical documents that maybe no-one since the person writing them had. It was a tremendous chance to put into action the learning we have just been doing through the stories of individuals and their experience of war.
Our Sixth Formers also had a chance to revise their knowledge and apply it to real sources of the Russian Revolution. Starting with mystery documents, they were excellent at figuring out who might have produced them and then applying their learning to see this hugely important world event from a different perspective. The educator running the session was very impressed with our students and their upholding our reputation at the Archives. They even got to see the original works of Karl Marx.
This was a lovely trip across both sessions.
