UEA History Masterclass

Posted on 14th Mar 2025

In their Master Class in March, Year 11 History students demonstrated why we are very lucky in the students we have at Attleborough Academy. Our session, led by an expert Historian from UEA, Dr Jessica Sharkey, was a success due to their attitudes.

The session enhanced our existing study of the Elizabethans and extended it to inform our students of the most cutting-edge interpretations and research in this area. Students learned about the Elizabethans and the wider world through the new lens of looking east to the Ottoman Empires, India and the Silk Roads, rather than just the traditional narrative of early American exploration.

Engagement in this demonstrated our students' own outward-looking attitudes as well as their respectfulness and willingness to push themselves beyond the basic classroom learning and even engage with university level scholarship. The notes they took and then their reflection on these to their own revision was impressive. A small selection are attached to this article.
